Aquaculture wastes can be used in farmlands
Karelian scientists are investigating how effective and safe it is to use organic- and nutrient-rich sediments from fish farms as fertilizers. This can help in the search for new, alternative soil conditioners on the one hand and address the problem of aquacultural waste disposal on the other. Experiments with lettuce and other crops showed that sediments from fish cages caused no harm to either soil or plants, and have a positive effect on certain parameters.

Linguists handed over 50k sentences in Karelian over to Yandex for creating an online translation tool
Specialists of the VepKar language platform continue their work to prepare data for creating Yandex-based online Karelian and Veps translators. More than half of the required 100,000 sentences (text in various genres) in the Livvi dialect of Karelian have already been submitted to the company. This and other perspectives of the platform’s development were presented by Alexandra Rodionova, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History KarRC RAS, during the 7th International Conference "Digitizing the Languages of the Peoples of Russia: Experience Upscaling and Prospects" in Yoshkar-Ola.

At its award ceremony, the 26th Republic of Karelia Book of the Year – 2025 contest recognized all three nominated KarRC RAS publications: “Livvi Villages from A to Ä: A Dictionary of Populated Place Names”, “Kurkijoki: Archaeology, History, Culture”, and “Enlightening Journeys of Karelian Baby Animals”.

Leaders of the KarRC RAS and Abkhazian Academy of Sciences signed a cooperation agreement
Olga Bakhmet, KarRC RAS CEO, and Zurab Dzhapua, President of the Abkhazian Academy of Sciences, signed a cooperation agreement. The signing took place at the opening of the 12th International Research-to-Practice Seminar “Methods of Fieldwork, Archiving, and Study of Folklore, Ethnographic, Linguistic, and Manuscript Materials” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of integrated expeditions to Zaonezhye area, 70th anniversary of the Audio Record Archive of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History (ILLH KarRC RAS), and the 60th anniversary of the Kizhi Open-air Museum.

On April 21, the 12th All-Russian Research-to-Practice Seminar “Methods of Fieldwork, Archiving, and Study of Folklore, Ethnographic, Linguistic, and Manuscript Materials” started at the Karelian Research Center RAS. The seminar is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of integrated expeditions to Zaonezhye area and the 70thanniversary of the Audio Record Archive of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature, and History (ILLH KarRC RAS).
Traditionally, the seminar is organized by the ILLH KarRC RAS and the Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture, and Ethnography.

New equipment enhances print performance of the KarRC RAS Editorial and Publishing Department
The KarRC RAS Editorial and Publishing Department is one of the most active publishing organizations in Karelia: in 2025, it submitted 44 publications to the Book Chamber of the Republic of Karelia. The department's staff do the prepress and printing of monographs, books, journals, brochures, and other printed materials for the needs of the Centre's divisions and other parties. On the eve of the Russian Printing Day, the EPD Head, Alexander Seleznyov, shared information about the department's work and novelties.
